Karate Tournament - September 14, 2002

Amber competed in a Karate Tournament in September of 2002. She competed in the Forms, Weapons, Sparring and Grappling portions of the tournament, which is combined with boys and girls.

She Finished:

Weapons - 1st Place - Gold Medal
Sparring - 1st Place - Gold Medal
Forms - 2nd Place - Silver Medal
Grappling - 2nd Place - Silver Medal

She did outstanding in the Weapons with her new bow staff routine. It really rocked!!

She won the sparring 6-2 in the finals.

She finished 2nd in the forms - she did a very difficult form and made some minor mistakes. She's in a tournament next weekend and wanted to try the form in order to get feedback from the judges on how to improve.

She finished 2nd in grappling and it was a very good match in the finals. The other matches didn't last very long. The finals were against a boy that is older, stronger and 20 lbs. heavier. She gave it a great effort and he was not able to "tap" her out. It went to the judges and he won ... which was the correct call. The grappling is her favorite part and she's very good. She almost had an ankle lock at one point and had a choke hold at one time but he was strong enough to escape. She can get down and dirty in the grappling :)
